I have been a life member of the Anti Apartheid Movement since 1963 and am a supporter of Black Lives Matter. I taught in England, Zambia and Nigeria for 37 years, have been an Anglican Church lay minister since 1972 and was a local councillor for 20 years. Furthermore, I was married to a Nigerian woman for 38 years before her death from cancer and have 2 sons and a daughter, and, currently, 2 grandchildren. I am a cancer survivor and a cancer patient. I write a column for the Saga monthly political magazine Polythony.
1. They Thought They Were Gods - In the 1520s, 300 Spanish soldiers invaded the Inca Empire and were destroyed by a combination of good luck, treachery, and better military technology. Told by the last ruler of Macho Picchu this is the Inca story of how the Spanish invaders were nearly defeated.
2. Shadow of the Cross - Jesus of Nazareth lived and died in the first 3 decades of the first millennium. His life changed the course of history but much is shrouded in myth and mystery. This, using modern concepts, is a retelling of that life but set within the correct time frame.
3. Siege! (Volume 1 and 2) - Set in the South Eastern London Borough of Lewisham, this is the story of a Jihadist takeover of a British secondary school. It's based on the true story of a takeover of a Moscow school by Chechen rebels in the late 20th century. It describes the takeover, the response of the authorities, and the resolution.
4. Fifty Years After - Set in London between 1962 and 2012, it describes how, in the racist and crime-infected 1960s, a young black boy and a young white girl develop a forbidden romance that ends in a double tragedy. The girl is murdered by a jealous white racist teenager and the boy is fitted up, tried, and executed for her murder. It describes the search for belated justice for the couple 50 years later by the great-grandson of the Prosecution and his black girlfriend.
5. Fifty Years After: The Hunt for Asif - Following on from the first book it follows the story of the two principals as they try to create a new life and career while a murderous Jihadist plot is hatched against three international leaders ending in the assassination of two them and the bucking of an American city. At the same time, the equally murderous gang broken up in the previous book is partially rebuilt. The book describes the simultaneous hunt for the British gang and the Jihadist leader and how their threats are eliminated.
Revenge! is about race hatred and stereotyping. It echoes the American and Caribbean experience of “black” slavery. It presupposes a situation where an African nation decides to enslave it's white expatriate population. Focusing on the experience of two young British teachers, and using an idea from “Brave New World”, it describes how they were turned from confident young adults, to prisoners and then to slaves - first physically and then mentally. It goes on to describe how an Abraham Lincoln figure rescues and redeems them, and how others from the majority population work to rescue some of the slaves. It explores the way dehumanization worked both on the enslaved minority and the slaving majority.
